HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Tricktreat_2 Today we did our "Graham Slam" lab.  The students worked with graham crackers, wheat thins, and frosting to observe a model of plate tectonics.  They saw how rift valleys, trenches, earthquakes, and mountains are formed through the movement of our Earth's plates.  Everyone did such a great job on this lab and seemed to have a wonderful time while learning!

Our unit test on Plate Tectonics is tomorrow!

Today in class we played "I am," "Who has?" to review some of the concepts.  Also, we played a review game in class.  As we played the game, the students filled out their study guides with the correct information.

Reminder: Study session, tomorrow, Tuesday, October 30th at 8:15 a.m.

I let the students keep the diagram they worked on this weekend with plate boundaries to study.  I will collect them tomorrow at the start of class.

We started Fibonacci poems today.  Fibonacci are poems that use a mathematical progression of syllables.  The number of syllables in each line must equal the sum of the syllables in each previous line.  We are writing our Fibonacci's about "Fall."

We started some pre-writing activities today, and the students wrote down all the sensory words that they associate with the fall.  We will continue on these this week and our completed project will be done on Friday, November 2, 2007.  We will be working on our poems in class.

We talked about plate boundaries today.  The students learned about the three types of boundaries: transform boundary, divergent boundary, and convergent boundary.  Also, we discussed the three types of convergent boundaries: oceanic crust to oceanic crust; oceanic crust to continental crust; and continental crust to continental crust.  We took notes in an outline form and drew diagrams.

I sent home the study guides for our test on Tuesday, October 30, 2007.

Homework - Plate Boundaries diagram (color and label) using pages 135-135 in their textbook.

The students received their sentences tests back today.  We went through the test to go over all of the correct answers.  The tests will not be sent home, but will be kept filed in my classroom.  I am going to post the grades this weekend on I-Parent.

We went to the Media Center today to check out books to read.  Every day, the students should have a personal reading book in class.  I am going to do random book checks to see who is or isn't bringing a book.

HAVE A FABULOUS WEEKEND!!
